Reminiscing
What does a tenner mean to u?
When I was in college, these are the things a tenner could get me:
1) A meal at Shetty’s dhaba (unlimited boiled rice, superfantabulous sambar). Amazing cost of living eh?
2) Oneway bus ride to Mangalore (ofcourse, at concessional ’student’ rates. Which meant I could travel for that amount only during college hours. Good reason to bunk class!).
3) Karkala, to and fro - with a chaat/sugarcane juice included! (If someone else is paying for ur tickets, u could have two chaats :p )
4) Juice at Jayatha ( exhorbitant, considering you get them much cheaper in bangalore). (Roopa’s suggestion)
5) An icecream stick. Kwality Walls chocobar I think.
6) Misal Pav at Durga. (Good stuff….this again from Roopa)
7) Two half maggies, or one full at the Maggie stall.
Internet access for 1 hr at the college lab. (My window to the outside world!!)
9) Five ‘rotis’ at U.K. (sabji on the house ;)) (Roopa’s again).
10) A VCD rental…when you are in the hostel and sharing the costs.
Can’t think of anything else…These days, a tenner doesnt mean much to me ![]()
Peace

When I wuz in school, after special class, we used to have sip-ups [50p x 6 + re.1 x 3], a samosa [Rs.3.50]before catching the bus home [50p].
In college, it could get me
1) Four WILLS [in 1st yr- for the seniors, in 2nd yr- for frenz, in 3rd yr- for me n' Darsan]
2) Three KINGS and a chikki [in final yr- for me n' frenz]
3) A ticket to the city by the 128 with some change leftover for the beggars at the bus stand.
4) Two black coffees and a half-boiled, at Rajuanna’s for the night-outs before the cycles/sem exams.
5) Juice at the ‘Juicy’ [1 grape + 1 lime]
n’ the rarest- 25 pages of Xerox at 40p per page, ONLY before sem exams!
Today, I can have a tea and a butter bun at the teashop opposite my house in BTM.
