Learning to be happy….(a.k.a - what u c is not what u get)
I came across a review of digital cameras at Anandtech today. These digicams are fast becoming popular, and are indeed quite handy. Technology is largely about reducing waiting time….while simultaneously improving quality of output…..and digicams above 4 megapixel do just that. I own a Samsung point and shoot. But unfortunately, I limit using it only for vacations/trips. This is mainly due to the expensive developing and printing charges. And the time between clicking snaps and actually getting to see it in print makes the whole activity very very unexciting.
Anyways, coming back to digital cameras, the review I read judged the Kodak Easyshare DX4530 as best buy for >$300 USD. I checked out the features of this model on the website, and ended up drooling. Simple math told me that $300 USD = 16k INR approx. Very affordable…and considering that you are getting a 5 Megapixel camera for that amount - very wishable. I browsed around the net a little more and stumbled upon Kodak’s India site. The same camera sells for 30k here. Yeah, thirty thousand fucking rupees!!! Ever heard of the saying “don’t count yer chickens……” ?
I am blogging from home after a long time. Most of the posts in the recent past have come from work. Blogging from work is both good and bad. Actually, its good and bad for the same reason. Using office time to pursue leisure activities is not considered appropriate. But looking at it from another angle, blogging brings a little excitement into the dullness of routine. What the heck…I have my Y! messenger running all the time anyway. And I’ve stopped counting the number of times my Project Manager has caught me chatting ![]()
Evening ended up being pretty frustrating. Having completed a fair amount of coding, I decided to start entering text into my website. My default browser at home is Opera, and all seemed well at different stages of testing/previewing. For some reason I decided to check out the output in I.E….and ended up seeing my beautiful site being displayed in the most screwed up manner. I spent the entire evening (didn’t attend Yoga class) debugging the HTML code without luck. I still havent been able to figure out what’s wrong. Anyways, as an FYI, here are the steps I followed to build the site:
1) Design in Photoshop
2) Slice in ImageReady. All mouseovers are created at this step
3) Generate a HTML file, along with images (the slices) from Imageready
4) Editing/Tweak in Dreamweaver.
Now, I am not sure at which step the browser incompatibility sneaked in. In the above mentioned process, there is actually very little coding involved. ImageReady takes care of most of the HTML….which actually is not the way the old-schoolers (VI & Notepad fans) like to work. I even tried to re-slice using Fireworks….but no luck. My navbar still looks like it was farted on, by an elephant…all broken :(( I HATE I.E…
I guess i’ll hit the bed now….
Peace

i’ve a kodak easyshare cx4200 - my dad bot it for my sis on her b’day a yr ago.. he paid almost 10k for it. its 2.0 mp .. ppl mistake it for a non-digi cam but man, am i happy with it or what?!! has just 16 mb [intl mem- u can add SD/MMC of 256mb or whateva if u want!] n’ uses standard AA size, which is a boon. it has its pros n’ cons but i’m happy with it n’ the quality too. take my word- don’t go for anythin above 3.2 mp, cuz thats enuf for photo quality prints! its like usin a P-4 to play MK3. u just don’t need it! unless of course u wanna take a pic of a gal n’ then take a print after enlarging only her assets
i’ve a friend who has a casio 6 mp cam. each pic is about 4 mb! WTF?! so save ur cash for somethin n’ get a nikon coolpix [its the best] 3.2 mp is more than enuf! u shud get it for 12k or so in india. a pal o’ mine in the US has a casio 4 mp- he got it for just $150! :p

I see ur point man…but look at it this way - 12k for 3 MP…16k for 5 MP w/ 3x zoom +other neat specs….of course, u don’t really get it for 16k (thanks for what they call taxes)….but that was how I was looking at it….I wanna be future-ready!
But yes, 3-4 MP should do for an amateur…which I dont wanna be
